Theophilus Capen Abbot (April 29, 1826 – November 7, 1892) was president of State Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) from 1862 to 1885. Abbot Hall (attached to Mason Hall) in the Red Cedar residential complex is named in his honor, as is Abbot Road in East Lansing.
In 1857, Abbot became the first principal of the Ann Arbor Union School, the first public school to serve the entire city of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Abbot Elementary School in Ann Arbor is named after him.
